A small sample of some of the best British-American literature is included in this textbook. It is divided into three genres: speech, short story, and poetry. The works are Martin Luther King¡¯s ¡°I Have a Dream¡± speech; the short story ¡°The Lottery,¡± by Shirley Jackson; and the poems ¡°Sonnet 18,¡± by William Shakespeare and ¡°The Tyger¡± by William Blake.
To help students understand these works, literary elements and techniques of each genre are included in each lesson. In addition, background knowledge, guidance questions, and discussion topics are also provided.
We confess that the knowledge in the textbook is not original—we have merely compiled in one book information that is widely available.
We would like to thank everyone who has worked and helped us throughout the whole process, from writing, proofreading, and editing the textbook to its publishing.
